
Mike Hurst – Videostreaming Developer
Mike joined e-cast at its inception in 2006, with a background in television post-production followed by 10 years experience as a multi-media developer at the University of Auckland Centre for Flexible and Distance Learning.
He was a member of the team developing methods to deliver video by Internet to meet the needs of students enrolled in distance learning courses, which also involved close collaboration with the web development team to create Flash-based interactive sites containing a variety of rich media.
Mike has specific responsibility for e-cast operational development to manage:
- Ingesting, editing and encoding video and audio
- SAN management
- Archive management
- Research and Development into emerging technology
Warner Roberts - Project Manager
Warner has a background in New Media with experience in both technical and sales roles.
He began as a technician engaged in first level support in a help centre environment then progressed to second level support for large networking companies. This included proactively monitoring and maintaining system integrity for large institutions including Telecom and the NZ Police.
In Sales, Warner progressed to account management for Walker Wireless (Now known as Woosh) and was also an account executive at Lowe Lintas on the Vodafone account.
Warner went back to School to pursue his interest in Multimedia, completing a Diploma of Multimedia.
e-cast
One of Warner's key roles at e-cast is as Client liaison, Sales point of contact for enquiries from new and potential clients and sourcing content to populate the e-cast video library and shops.
Project Management
Warner is increasingly involved as Project Manager on specific projects that include overseeing the design and build process for several different and creatively distinct websites as well as other projects within e-cast.
Honglei Zhang - IT Developer
Honglei joined e-cast in 2006 from Chong Bureau, the New Zealand news information service, where he wrote their metadata search engine based on their large information database in Cocoa. At e-cast Honglei has been responsible for System Integration and Development, and has specifically developed:
- Automatic scheduled recording, encoding and transferring software running on Mac to integrate into client’s existing system.
- Software for web-based IP video and automated multi-channels recording application for the e-cast education website.
- Automated video encoding software compatible with QuickTime Player.
- Application running on FTP server to automatically generate email notices and transfer files to different servers.
Honglei has strong database knowledge in FileMaker and MySQL and has been central to the development of e-cast systems.
Kevin Zhong - Web / Database Developer
Kevin is an experienced Web and Database developer with 6 years web developing experience. Involved in developing Fence Post website, Air New Zealand Online Booking System, PayNZ Payment System etc.
Kevin is specifically experienced in:
- Web Based Application and database design.
- Flash development and graphic design.
